EXIBITION DESCRIPTION

Exhibition title: ANTE KAŠTELANČIĆ – monographic exhibition
Duration: 8 Sep 2011 – 9 Oct 2011

Umjetnički paviljon u Zagrebu jesensku izložbenu sezonu otvara monografskom izložbom slikara Ante Kaštelančića.

The artistic opus of Ante Kaštelančić is one of the pillars that irreplaceably carries its share of modernity in the Croatian art of the 20th century with its power of individuality of visual expression and the way it renders the world of forms and colours. Deeply anchored in the European culture of broad visual horizons, Kaštelančić followed the colouristic call of his own sensations, at the same time acknowledging similar visual styles of the grand masters of colour in Croatia and Europe. By merging various cultural experiences and insights, the painter incessantly created new images with his sequences of visual flashes, which would continue to emanate the fire of his temperament and the enchantment of his spirit. Ships inhabit many of the paintings, yet their painter did not limit his themes in terms of content. From these paintings, harmonies of colours reach the alienated modern man, bombarding the greyness of our everyday life, which prevents us from seeing how deeply we are interconnected with the marvellous nature around us and with our own nature, which we hardly know. Within the Croatian artistic heritage, Kaštelančić’s opus remains a symbol of originality and autonomy, since its author did not succumb to the influence of any waves of fashion which devastated the Croatian culture under the seducing mask of trends, particulary during the second half of the 20th century. The artistic opus of Ante Kaštelančić is one of the pillars that irreplaceably carries its share of modernity in the Croatian art of the 20th century with its power of individuality of visual expression and the way it renders the world of forms and colours.
