Looking at Others

In the Art Pavilion in Zagreb, on February 12th, an international exhibition “Look at Others” opens, about twenty contemporary artists from all over the world, covered by the concept of the exhibition’s author, art historian Ivo Radmila Jankovic.

Through pieces presented via the media of video, photography, installation and painting, the exhibition will hold up for examination the criteria of what is ethical and unethical in contemporary society, presenting various approaches to the encounter of artist and artist’s ‘model’, an event not unattended with consequences. In this manner, looking at Others, the artists reveal, sometimes brutally, the darkened places of the world in which we live – of cultural racism, the heartless rules of the marketplace, contemporary forms of neo-colonialism, the mediaisation of reality as embodied by the culture of the reality show, and will at the same time attempt to let us know that art can sometimes be of assistance in the mastering of socially caused traumas by its introduction of the ethics of responsibility. Through pieces presented via the media of video, photography, installation and painting, the exhibition will hold up for examination the criteria of what is ethical and unethical in contemporary society, presenting various approaches to the encounter of artist and artist’s ‘model’, an event not unattended with consequences.
